Check with your doctor if you experience one or more of the following symptoms: pain in the face, jaw or neck; jaw muscle stiffness; limited movement or locking of the jaw, painful clicking, popping or grating in the jaw joint when chewing and when the upper and lower teeth do not fit together.

The development of this disorder is not clear as it worsens over time. What causes TMJ cannot be determined as of this time. It can be trauma to the jaw, it can be rheumatism. It can be female hormones because women are more prone to TMJ disorder than men. It could be anything. Although, there are some who suffer from TMJ disorder that have improved considerably over a couple of weeks or months. While some have this disorder for a long time and they experience discomfort and pain that is usually accompanied when you have TMJ.

If you feel that you have TMJ as you have the symptoms mentioned above, consider this: you can ease the pain by eating foods that are not too difficult to chew. You can apply ice packs on your jaw. Avoid yawning too wide or chewing gum. This simple steps can ease the pain that TMJ disorder can bring you. However, it is always wise to consult with your doctor.
